What is TOEFL?

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a globally recognized English proficiency exam designed for students aiming to study in English-speaking countries. Conducted by ETS (Educational Testing Services), the TOEFL assesses your ability in four key academic English skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

The exam is primarily available in the internet-based format, known as TOEFL iBT, but can now also be taken on paper. For added flexibility, ETS offers the TOEFL Home Edition, allowing students to take the test safely from their homes.

TOEFL scores are widely accepted by universities and institutions in the United States, Canada, and many other countries worldwide.

What is on TOEFL TEST Paper?

The TOEFL iBT and on paper test is scored on a scale of 0 to 120, with each of the four sections—Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing—scored individually on a scale of 0 to 30. The scores from each section are then combined to give a total score.
Reading (0-30): Measures your ability to understand and analyze written texts.
Listening (0-30): Assesses your comprehension of conversations and lectures.
Speaking (0-30): Evaluates how well you can express ideas and opinions in English.
Writing (0-30): Tests your ability to write essays and express ideas clearly and coherently.
Each section is scored based on specific criteria, and ETS provides a detailed score report that outlines your performance, including feedback on your strengths and areas for improvement.

The TOEFL Test on Paper is an option for taking the TOEFL iBT exam in locations where the internet-based format may not be available or convenient. This version assesses the same four skills: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. However, unlike the TOEFL iBT, the Speaking section is completed separately on a computer and submitted for scoring. The paper-based format still upholds the high standards of TOEFL testing, ensuring accurate assessment of academic English proficiency.
